Dancing Around the Honey Tree

November 24, 2022 By Andrea Downey-Lauenburg

Yes, I admit there is something going on between Cheyenne and me. I’m not quite sure yet what it is. All I can say is that it definitely More. Than. The. Usual.

No, we didn’t do it. Yet.

Most of the time I crush on straight girls. Of course, it’s the same here. Why should it be different anyway? Maybe I just don’t like lesbians? Maybe they are just too gay for my taste? On the other hand, Mazikeen, my personal demon, is as gay as someone can be. Always was. So, I probably need another theory. Maybe it is only because straight girls are more readily available.

What is the deal with Cheyenne? Joana says it’s more than a crush. She could tell. Really? Joana is my BFF. (Yes, forever.) With benefits, I admit, but those will become rare joys in the coming years, considering she has a serious boyfriend now, and lives thousands and thousands of miles North of our travel route. Mazikeen, however, watches like a hawk over me. She doesn’t like it when I don’t commit to things: “When you start something with her, make damn sure that you don’t just play with the poor girl’s feelings.” As if.

However, there is a serious problem: To commit to something there has to be something in the first place. Neither Cheyenne nor I is willing to start more than a serious friendship! Why? Either of us waits for the other one to get the ball rolling. Or so I believe. If she wants anything else than what we are right now.

So, things can get a bit complicated. To say the least. Maze says we do the dance around the honey tree. Well, maybe. I like dancing.
